Register now for our free #WBW2025 presentation.
#WBW2025 will focus on recognizing that breastfeeding is not just a personal act — it is a powerful tool for environmental sustainability and climate resilience. Supporting breastfeeding helps reduce the carbon footprint and environmental toll of formula production, packaging, and waste. But to make breastfeeding sustainable, we must also build sustainable systems of support—in our hospitals, communities, policies, and homes. More information can be found on the WABA website.
In 2023, the global exclusive breastfeeding rate at 6 months was 48%, close to the World Assembly target of 50% for 2025.
To ensure positive growth and reach the new 2030 target of 70% exclusive breastfeeding at 6 months, participation of each actor that makes up the warm chain is crucial.
Supporting breastfeeding for a healthier planet requires creating sustainable environment where breastfeeding is prioritised.
When breastfeeding is protected, promoted and supported, a sustainable environment is created and will help us to to mitigate immediate impacts of climate change.
Protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding addresses inequalities that stand in the way of sustainable development.
