Target Audience: This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of Physicians, Neonatologists, Pediatricians, GPs, IBCLCs, Nurse practitioners, Registered Nurses, Midwives, Registered dietitians, CLCs, Peer supporters, Doulas, and Childbirth educators.
- Compare initiatives relating to policy development and implementation for improved breastfeeding outcomes in health institutions.
- Recognise the prevalence of stigma and stereotyping contributing to health inequities in breastfeeding and lactation.
- Outline circumstances for families which present special challenges for breastfeeding and explore strategies for overcoming these.
- Describe contemporary research relevant to breastfeeding dyads including medications and the infant microbiome.
- Discuss the role and skills of the lactation professional in supporting families to achieve their breastfeeding goals.
